WHY FRENCH

Why French Matters Here

French is one of Canada's two official languages, and for a student in BC it is not a standalone hobby subject. It runs from Core French in school, through French Immersion, up into IB French and AP French, then into university French courses — and, for adults, into the TEF B2 exam used for Canadian immigration.

We teach every stage on that line. One levelling standard, one team of locally licensed French teachers. A student who starts with school French and later needs exam French does not have to change providers or get re-assessed from scratch.

What the parent sees: French support that follows the student from a report-card grade to the exam or application that actually depends on it.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who It's For

Before a student joins a class we place them by level, combining their school French grade with a French placement test — current ability, not year of birth.

K-12 students

Students in Core French or French Immersion who have fallen behind, or who want to move up into IB French or AP French.

University students

Students who need outside support for a university French course.

Adults

Adults preparing the French TEF B2 exam for Canadian immigration, or taking adult French training.

Typical situations

Pronunciation that never got corrected; grammar the student can recite but can't write; reading is fine but speaking stalls; arriving from another region and needing the foundation rebuilt.

HOW WE TEACH

How We Teach French

What the parent sees: regular testing and feedback, so you know where your child’s French actually is.

Built to the school district French curriculum

Our French courses follow the French curriculum outlines used by local Canadian school districts. We place each student by level using their school French grade plus a French placement test, then work through the course content in order — pronunciation correction first, then grammar foundations, then vocabulary and applied use.

Taught by locally licensed French teachers

Our French teachers hold North American local teaching certification and know the school districts' French curriculum outlines. They work with K-12 French tutoring and with adult French exam preparation, and they teach both the language and the exam technique.

A learning system that holds the progress

We have helped close to 10,000 students. Experienced French teachers build the foundation and then the ability on top of it; our service team handles the scheduling and course planning; students are tested and given feedback on a regular cycle.

FRENCH FAQ

French Tutoring FAQ

Do you tutor both Core French and French Immersion?

Yes. French Immersion school-course support is one of our named courses, built to the local school district's French Immersion curriculum, and the graded French Levels 1-4 program covers school French more broadly — listening and speaking, writing, reading, vocabulary and cultural background.

How do you decide which French level my child starts at?

We combine two things: your child's French grade at school, and a French placement test we run before the first class. That gives a level rather than a guess, and the level moves as the student's ability moves. We do not place by year of birth.

Are French classes online, in person, or both?

Both. The same courses run online and in person, and the in-person location is 5831 Cedarbridge Way #102, Richmond, BC V6X 2A8. One-on-one private lessons and small-group classes are both available; small-group places are limited.

Do you tutor IB French and AP French?

Yes — IB French (IB Programme-French), IB Diploma French (IB Diploma Programme-French) and AP French (AP French Course Language and Culture) are each taught as their own course, by locally licensed French teachers, alongside the student's school schedule.

Can you prepare an adult for the French TEF B2 exam for Canadian immigration?

Yes. We run French TEF exam preparation at the B2 level for Canadian immigration, taught by locally licensed French teachers who work with adult French exam content and drill the exam's own question types.

How do you keep parents informed?

Two ways: regular testing with feedback, and parent meetings on a regular cycle where the teacher goes through how your child is doing, the learning goal, the plan, and how to support it at home.

Where can my child get French tutoring in Richmond?
Whatever kind of French help a Richmond student needs, we can cover it. As a Richmond French tutoring centre, our classes are streamed into Levels 1-4 by grade and French level, taking in listening and speaking, writing, reading, vocabulary and cultural background - so a student learns French systematically, starts to think in it, and comes out with the grade and the skill behind it. Richmond students can study in person or online, 1-to-1 or in a small group. Talk to one of our course teachers about the options and a trial class.
Which French class would you recommend in Burnaby?
Start with our online French classes. They are designed against the Burnaby School District French Immersion curriculum and streamed into Levels 1-4 for Burnaby elementary and secondary students, built to firm up the basics and lift the grade. Burnaby students can also take IB French and AP French with us, along with a B2-level course for the TEF exam used in Canadian immigration - exam technique on one side, confidence in speaking French on the other.

The teachers and tutors here are genuinely professional, and the courses are very detailed. My child's grades improved noticeably after tutoring here. There is a physical tutoring centre and online classes too — I'd recommend both.
