About the Texas K-12 curriculum

The Texas Education Agency sets the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the standards that define what students learn in every subject from kindergarten through grade 12.

Standards bodies in Texas

The TEA governs math, Language Arts, science, and social studies through the Texas TEKS. Student mastery is measured by the STAAR assessments in grades 3-8 and select end-of-course exams.

Grade levels & progression
