Discover Amazing Types of Transportation!
You will explore different types of transportation and learn how cars, buses, boats, and airplanes help people travel to different places.
Introduction
You use different types of transportation every day to get from one place to another! Transportation helps you travel to school, visit family, and explore new places. You will learn about cars, buses, boats, airplanes, and many other ways people move around.
Land Transportation
Cars are the most common way families travel. You ride in cars to go to the store, visit friends, or take long trips. Cars have four wheels and drive on roads.
Buses are big vehicles that carry many people at once. You might ride a school bus to get to school or take a city bus around town. Buses help lots of people travel together safely.
Trucks are like big, strong cars that can carry heavy things. Your family might use a truck to move to a new house or carry supplies to Getting Around the Community.
Trains move on special tracks and can carry many people long distances. You sit in train cars and watch the world go by your window as you travel.
Water Transportation
Boats float on water and help you cross lakes, rivers, and oceans. You use boats when you need to travel over water where cars cannot go.
Some boats are small for short trips across a pond. Other boats are huge ships that can carry many families across the ocean to visit faraway places.
Air Transportation
Airplanes fly high in the sky and help you travel very far, very fast. When you want to visit someone who lives far away, airplanes can get you there quickly by flying above the clouds.
Helicopters also fly in the air but can land in small spaces. They help people reach places that are hard to get to, like the top of mountains.
Walking and Your Body
Walking is the most basic way to travel! You use your feet to walk to nearby places like the playground or a friend's house. Walking helps you stay healthy and is perfect for short trips.
You can also ride bicycles, scooters, or skateboards for fun trips around your neighborhood. These help you go faster than walking but still use your body to move.
