Definition

Groups of similar specialised cells that work together to perform a particular function. In animals, the main types include muscle, nervous, epithelial, and connective tissue, which combine to form organs.

Worked examples

Muscle tissue in your bicep contracts when you lift your arm.
Specialised muscle cells work together to produce movement.
Epithelial tissue lines your mouth and stomach, forming a protective barrier.
Tightly packed epithelial cells cover surfaces and protect organs.
