NJ 1st Grade Math Curriculum
Give your 1st grader the support they need to keep up with New Jersey's math curriculum. Lessons and practice problems cover every strand, from counting and place value to shapes and data.
About 1st Grade New Jersey math
New Jersey follows the NJ Student Learning Standards for Mathematics, organized around operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, measurement and data, and geometry. In 1st grade, students work on addition and subtraction within 20, understanding place value with two-digit numbers, telling time, organizing data, and building and partitioning shapes. StudyPug provides step-by-step lessons, practice problems, and instant feedback aligned to those standards.
- Strands: operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, measurement and data, and geometry
- Video lessons for every 1st grade NJ math topic
- Practice problems with step-by-step solutions
- Content aligned to NJ Student Learning Standards

How StudyPug Helps NJ 1st Grade Math Students
When a 1st grader gets stuck on place value or word problems, StudyPug lets them replay a short video lesson as many times as needed, then move straight into practice problems with instant, step-by-step feedback. Parents can track which strands still need work and pick up exactly where their child left off. You can explore the full set of topics on the 1 class maths course page, or jump straight to the grade 1 math practice test to see where your child stands today.
Building a strong foundation in 1st grade makes every later math course easier. The same concepts covered in class - addition facts, counting on, and early geometry - are organized by strand on StudyPug so nothing falls through the cracks.
Aligned to NJ 1st Grade Math Curriculum
Every lesson on StudyPug is mapped to the NJ Student Learning Standards for 1st Grade Mathematics. Whether the class is working on two-digit place value, telling time to the half-hour, or composing shapes, the content matches what New Jersey teachers are required to teach, so there are no surprises and no wasted time on topics outside the curriculum. Families who want to see what comes next can also preview the nj kindergarten math curriculum to understand the skills students built the year before.
