You will learn what makes you unique your own special mix of looks, feelings, interests, and talents that belongs only to you.
What Makes You Unique?
You are one of a kind! No one in the whole world is exactly like you. You have your own special mix of looks, feelings, and things you love and that is what makes you unique.
You can learn about your own personal characteristics the special qualities and features that belong only to you. You will also learn about Physical Characteristics and Growth and Individual Interests and Abilities to understand all the ways you are special.
Your Physical Characteristics
Your body has features that make you look like you! Things like your hair colour, eye colour, skin tone, and height are called physical characteristics. These are things you can see on a person's body.
You might have curly hair or straight hair. You might be tall or short. You might even have a birthmark a unique physical feature on your body. No two people look exactly the same!
Your Interests, Hobbies, and Talents
A hobby is a fun activity you love to do, like drawing, singing, or building with blocks. Your personal interests are the activities you really enjoy doing every day.
You also have special talents things you are really good at! One friend might love hockey. Another might love ballet. You each have your own unique interests and talents, and that is wonderful.
Your Personality and Feelings
A personality trait is something that describes how you think, feel, or act. You might be shy or brave, funny or quiet. These feelings and traits are part of who you are on the inside.
Even twins who look alike are unique because each person has their own personality and feelings. Your personality is a big part of what makes you special!
Your Cultural Background
Your cultural background is part of who you are too! It includes your family's traditions special things your family does each year, like celebrations. It also includes the language you speak at home.
Canada is home to people from many different cultures and languages. You can learn more about this through Cultural Foods and Dress and Family Origins. Your background is something to be proud of!

Unique: You are unique when there is only one of you one of a kind and special in your own way.
Personal Characteristic: A personal characteristic is a special quality or feature that belongs to you, like your eye colour or your kindness.
Physical Characteristic: A physical characteristic is something you can see on a person's body, like hair colour, skin tone, or height.
Hobby: A hobby is a fun activity you love to do, like drawing, singing, or playing a sport.
Personal Interest: A personal interest is an activity or topic that you really enjoy, like painting or making music.
Talent: A talent is something you are really good at, like building with blocks or telling funny jokes.
Personality Trait: A personality trait describes how you think, feel, or act like being brave, shy, or funny.
Tradition: A tradition is something your family does each year, like a special celebration or holiday.
Language: Language is how you communicate with others. Canada has two official languages English and French.
Culture: Culture is the way a group of people lives, celebrates, and shares things together.
Community: A community is a group of people who live nearby and support one another.
Cultural Background: Your cultural background is where your family comes from and the traditions, language, and ways of life your family shares.
Fingerprints: Fingerprints are the tiny patterns on the tips of your fingers. No two people in the world have the same fingerprints!
Self-Portrait: A self-portrait is a drawing of yourself that shows your own unique physical features and appearance.
Ways to Celebrate Your Uniqueness
You can draw a self-portrait to show your own unique look! You can also talk with a classmate and listen to their stories to learn about their personal characteristics.
You will also learn about Respect for Others because when you know what makes you special, you can also celebrate what makes others special too! You can explore Group Participation and Expressing Ideas to share what makes you unique with your class.
