Discover Different Points of View!

You will learn that everyone has their own point of view, and that listening to others helps you understand how they feel and think.

What Are Different Points of View?

Everyone sees the world in their own way. A point of view is how you see a situation. Your point of view is shaped by where you live, what you have experienced, and how you feel.

Two people can look at the same thing and feel very differently about it. That is completely okay! You can learn a lot by listening to how others see things. This connects to what you already know about Personal Uniqueness every person is special and sees the world in their own way.

Feelings and Opinions

A feeling is an emotion you have, like happy, sad, excited, or nervous. An opinion is what you think about something. Your opinion might be different from your friend's opinion, and that is normal.

When two people think differently about the same thing, they disagree. Disagreeing does not mean someone is wrong. It just means you each have your own point of view. For example, one student might think winter is the best season, while another prefers summer both feelings are real and valid.

How to Understand Someone Else's Point of View

When you want to understand how someone else feels, you listen carefully. You can also ask them questions. Sharing your own ideas is important too.

Respecting others means you value their thoughts and feelings, even when you see things differently. This is called perspective taking trying to understand how someone else sees the world. You learned about Respect for Others and Listening Skills, and those skills help you understand different points of view every day.

Why Our Experiences Shape Our Views

Where you grow up and what you have done shapes how you see things. A child who loves the snow might feel excited about a snowstorm. A child who has never seen snow might feel scared.

Your life experiences make your point of view unique. That is why people across Canada from Nunavut to Nova Scotia can feel very differently about the same thing. Learning about Diversity Within Communities helps you see how many different points of view exist all around you.
