You will discover many different types of work that people do every day! Workers in your community have special jobs that help everyone. You can see community workers like firefighters, doctors, and teachers all around you.

What Are Types of Work?

Work means the job that grown-ups do to help people and earn money. You will learn that there are many types of jobs in your neighborhood. Some people work in stores, some work in schools, and others work outside.

People choose different jobs because they are good at different things. You will understand why people work - they work to help others and to get money for their families.

Community Helper Jobs

You will meet many community helpers who work in your town. Firefighters drive big red trucks and put out fires to keep you safe. Police officers wear uniforms with badges and protect everyone in the community.

Doctors and nurses work in hospitals to help sick people feel better. Teachers work in schools to help you learn new things every day. You can find these jobs in the community all around you.

Workers Who Make and Sell Things

Some workers make things that you use every day. Bakers make bread and cookies in bakeries. Carpenters use hammers and nails to build houses and furniture.

Other workers sell things in stores. Cashiers help you buy food at the grocery store. You will learn about types of goods that workers make and types of services that workers provide.

Workplace: The place where someone goes to do their job, like a store, office, or school.

Skills: Special things you can do well, like being good at counting, drawing, or helping others.

Service: Work that helps other people, like when a mail carrier brings letters to your house.
