About the ACCUPLACER Reading test
The ACCUPLACER Reading test is one of five multiple-choice ACCUPLACER placement tests from the College Board. It's computer-adaptive and untimed, with 20 questions — your answer to each question determines the difficulty of the next, and your score (200–300) helps your college place you in the right English course.
What topics does ACCUPLACER Reading cover?
Four skill areas: information and ideas, rhetoric, synthesis of paired passages, and vocabulary in context. StudyPug covers all of them with adaptive practice and video lessons.
Is ACCUPLACER Reading hard, and where do students struggle most?
Most students have gaps in a few specific places — usually inference questions and paired-passage synthesis. A quick diagnostic finds those gaps, then adaptive practice fills them so you move from stuck to confident.
How is ACCUPLACER Reading scored?
Each ACCUPLACER test is scored on a 200–300 scale. The test is adaptive — harder questions follow correct answers — and there's no time limit, so you can read at your own pace.

What does ACCUPLACER Reading actually test?
ACCUPLACER Reading is one literary set of 4 questions, one paired informational set of 4, and 12 standalone informational questions. The content domains are Information and Ideas (35–55%), Rhetoric (35–55%), Synthesis (10%), and Vocabulary (10–20%).
What score do I need on ACCUPLACER Reading?
ACCUPLACER Reading is 20 multiple-choice questions with no time limit, reported as a single score from 200 to 300. No one passes or fails ACCUPLACER. Your college — not College Board — sets the cutoffs that decide which course you place into, so check your school's placement chart or testing center for the numbers that apply to you.
Is this the same as the old ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension test?
No. Reading Comprehension was part of classic ACCUPLACER, which was discontinued in January 2019 and reported on a 20–120 scale. Today's ACCUPLACER Reading is reported on 200–300 and puts more weight on reading in extended context. The 20–120 scale you may still see quoted belongs to the classic tests and to the ESL tests.
