They Skipped Remedial. So Can You.
Real students. Real ACCUPLACER placements.
Placed into Calculus, Mar 9

Hadn't done math in 3 years after a gap year. Worked through the algebra videos for a month and placed straight into Calculus I — saved a full semester of prerequisites.

Maya P.

Maya P., Pre-engineering, Arlington, VA

Placed into College Algebra, Feb 18

First ACCUPLACER attempt put me in pre-algebra. Studied the QAS and Advanced Algebra material for 6 weeks, retook it, and skipped two remedial courses.

Tony G.

Tony G., Business major, Tucson, AZ

Placed into Statistics, Jan 30

Returning to school after raising my kids. The videos walked through every algebra concept I'd forgotten. Placed into college statistics on the first try.

Lillian C.

Lillian C., Adult learner, Boston, MA

Placed into Pre-Calculus, Jan 12

The diagnostic showed me I was solid on arithmetic but weak on quadratics and functions. Drilled those for two weeks and tested into pre-calc instead of intermediate algebra.

Devon R.

Devon R., Computer science transfer, Houston, TX

Placed out of all remedial, Dec 4

International student, English wasn't my barrier — math was. The step-by-step solutions made every problem make sense. Placed out of every remedial course.

Saanvi K.

Saanvi K., Nursing prerequisite, Miami, FL

Skipped remedial, Feb 9

Military veteran using GI Bill benefits. The diagnostic focused me on QAS and AAF — the two tests my college weighted most. Placed directly into credit-bearing math.

Marcus H.

Marcus H., U.S. Army veteran, Austin, TX

ACCUPLACER FAQ

We've got answers to some popular questions.

What is the ACCUPLACER?

The Next-Generation ACCUPLACER is a computer-adaptive placement test from the College Board, used by over 1,500 U.S. colleges to determine which courses you're ready for when you enroll. The five main multiple-choice tests cover Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra & Statistics (QAS), and Advanced Algebra & Functions (AAF). Many schools also include the WritePlacer essay.

How is the ACCUPLACER structured?

Each of the five main tests is computer-adaptive — meaning the difficulty of the questions adjusts based on how you're answering — and is scored on a scale of 200 to 300. Most main tests have around 20 questions (Writing has 25). The exam is untimed, but most students finish all five tests in 2 to 3 hours total. The WritePlacer essay (a 300–600 word written response) is scored 1 to 8 separately.

What ACCUPLACER score do I need?

There is no universal passing score — every college sets its own cut scores. As a general guide, scoring above 250 typically indicates readiness for college-level coursework, and 263+ is often the target for placement directly into credit-bearing math and English. Scores below 237 usually signal you'll need remedial classes first. Always check your specific college's cut scores before you test.

How much does the ACCUPLACER cost?

The College Board doesn't charge students directly — your institution administers the test and sets the fee. Costs typically range from $0 to $50, and many community colleges include the test free as part of enrollment. Check with your college's testing center for the exact fee.

Can I retake the ACCUPLACER if I don't place where I want?

Yes. The College Board doesn't set a national retake limit — your institution does. A common policy is two retakes within two years (one after a 24-hour wait, another after about three months), but rules vary by school. Scores are typically valid for two years. StudyPug's diagnostic assessments help you focus your retake on the test sections holding back your placement.

What is the difference between StudyPug pricing plans?

StudyPug offers three test-prep plans: a Monthly plan ($29.99/mo) for flexible access, a 3-Month plan ($20/mo, billed as $59.99) for focused test prep, and a 6-Month plan ($15/mo, billed as $89.99) for longer study timelines. All plans include step-by-step video lessons, ACCUPLACER-style practice for every test, adaptive practice, diagnostic assessments, and progress tracking.
