Maine 1st grade math follows the Maine Learning Results Math standards. Students spend the year building fluency with addition and subtraction, understanding place value in two-digit numbers, measuring length, telling time, and working with shapes. These skills form the foundation for all math learning in later grades.
Addition and Subtraction
A large part of 1st grade math is mastering addition and subtraction within 20. Measurement, Time, and Data
1st graders in Maine order objects by length, measure using whole number units, tell time to the hour and half-hour, and organize data into up to three categories.
