Language — FAQ
We've got answers to some popular questions.
Do I need a subscription to practice Language?
You can create an account and start working TABE Language practice questions with step-by-step solutions right away. A StudyPug plan opens the certified-teacher video lessons, full diagnostics, mock exams and study plans for StudyPug's TABE Language prep.
What does Language actually test?
Language covers grammar, sentence structure, and mechanics through editing-style questions rather than open writing. StudyPug covers it in the topic groups shown on this page: Grammar & Usage, Sentence Structure, Mechanics, and Editing in Context.
What score do I need on Language?
TABE is not pass or fail. Language is reported as a Grade Equivalent (GE) score, typically on a 0–12.9+ scale, and your program sets its own required cutoff — commonly somewhere between 6.0 and 9.0 depending on the trade or field. Check directly with your program for the number that applies to you.
Is the paper TABE the same as the computer-adaptive version?
Same skill standards, different format. TABE is available as a traditional paper-and-pencil test and as TABE Online, a computer-based version some test sites administer in a computer-adaptive form. Your Language GE score reflects the same content either way — check with your testing site to see which format they use.
