Math is one of the two PSAT sections

What Is PSAT Math?

PSAT Math is the second section of the PSAT/NMSQT. You get 44 questions in two 35-minute modules, with a calculator allowed on all of them. Most are multiple choice. A few ask you to type in the answer.

Where PSAT Math students get stuck

Three places, reliably. Systems of linear equations, because the question hides the second equation in a sentence. Nonlinear equations in one variable, where completing the square feels slower than it is. Trigonometric ratios, which appear in only a handful of questions and are easy to let slip.

Each of those is its own chapter here, with lessons and practice sets of its own.

PSAT Math on the PSAT/NMSQT

Algebra and Advanced Math together make up about two thirds of the section. That is chapters 1 through 13 in this course, from Linear equations in one variable to Rational expressions and equations. Problem-Solving and Data Analysis adds percentages and probability. Geometry and Trigonometry covers circles, right triangles and coordinate geometry.

How the lessons work here

Start with the diagnostic. It takes about five minutes and tells you which chapters are costing you points. Each lesson is a short video that works one problem type from the first line to the answer. Then you practice. The questions adjust to how you are doing, and a wrong answer shows every step. When a chapter feels solid, the full practice test tells you whether it holds up on the clock.

PSAT Math FAQ

We've got answers to some popular questions.

Can I try PSAT Math before I subscribe?

Yes. Start the PSAT Math practice test, or work questions from Linear equations in one variable, and see how the step-by-step solutions read before you pay.

What does PSAT Math actually test?

Four domains. Algebra is about 35% of the questions and Advanced Math about 32.5%, so linear equations and quadratics carry most of your score. Problem-Solving and Data Analysis is about 20%, and Geometry and Trigonometry the last 12.5%.

Can I use a calculator on PSAT Math?

Yes, on every question in both modules. The Bluebook app has a graphing calculator built in, or you can bring an approved one to the test.

How is PSAT Math scored?

Math is scored 160–760 and makes up half of your 320–1520 total. The 44 questions come in two 35-minute modules, and the second module is harder or easier depending on how the first one went, so early accuracy matters more than speed.

Is PSAT Math harder than SAT Math?

No. It covers the same four domains with fewer questions and a lower top score. Anything you fix here, like completing the square or SOH-CAH-TOA, carries straight over to the SAT.

How much does it cost, and can I stop?

Plans run by the month, three months or six months, with prices on the pricing page. A plan opens all 814 PSAT Math video lessons, the whole practice test and a study plan built from it. You can cancel whenever your test is done.
