What Does "Jumping" Mean in Addition?
Instead of adding \(348 + 275\) all at once, you break the second number apart by place value: \(275 = 200 + 70 + 5\). Then you start at \(348\) and jump forward three times, once for each part. This turns one hard problem into three easy ones, and it works the same way whether you are adding two-digit numbers or numbers close to 1000.
Why Jump in Hundreds, Tens, and Ones?
Jumping in place value order keeps every hop simple.
