Naming Numbers Up to 10

Naming numbers up to 10 means being able to look at a numeral, like \(7\), and say or write its number word, "seven." It also means going the other way: hearing or reading the word "seven" and knowing it stands for the numeral \(7\). This skill connects the symbol we write with the word we say, which is one of the very first steps in building number sense.

Every numeral from \(1\) to \(10\) has its own number word. Learning these pairs by heart helps children read number cards, follow instructions, and understand counting activities like counting forward and backward.
