About 3rd Grade Vermont math
Vermont follows the Vermont Adopted Math Standards, organized around operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, fractions, measurement and data, and geometry. In 3rd grade, students build fluency with multiplication and division within 100, work with fractions as numbers on a number line, measure area and perimeter, and read scaled graphs. Vermont 3rd Grade Math Topics
- Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Interpret products and quotients of whole numbers, solve multiplication and division word problems within 100, apply properties of operations, and identify arithmetic patterns.
- Number and Operations in Base Ten: Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100, fluently add and subtract within 1000, and multiply one-digit numbers by multiples of 10.
- Number and Operations - Fractions: Understand unit fractions, represent fractions on a number line, explain fraction equivalence, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
- Measurement and Data: Tell and write time to the nearest minute, measure liquid volumes and masses, draw scaled picture graphs and bar graphs, and generate measurement data using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch.
- Geometry: Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures, measure area by counting unit squares, relate area to multiplication and addition, solve perimeter problems, and partition shapes into equal parts expressed as unit fractions.
