What You'll Learn
Break each factor into hundreds, tens, and ones before multiplying, such as writing 236 as \( 200 + 30 + 6 \)
Use an area model to multiply each part of one factor by each part of the other, then add the partial products
Apply the standard column algorithm, multiplying by the ones digit first and then the tens digit with a zero placeholder shift
Carry correctly when a partial product in any column is 10 or more
Check a three-digit by two-digit product like \( 236 \times 34 = 8024 \) by adding the partial products \( 944 + 7080 \)
Extend the same method to three-digit by three-digit multiplication by adding a third partial product row
