Use a place value table (or place value chart) to line up digits by column and read multi-digit numbers accurately, from ones to thousands.
What You'll Learn
Identify each column heading in a place value table, such as thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones
Apply the rule that every place is \(10\) times the value of the place directly to its right
Line up digits in a table to read a multi-digit number one column at a time
Calculate a digit's actual value by multiplying it by its column, e.g. \(4 \times 1000 = 4000\)
Extend a table to the left with new columns like ten thousands for larger numbers
