About 3rd Grade New Jersey math
New Jersey follows the NJ Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), which organize 3rd grade math into operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, fractions, measurement and data, and geometry. - Number and Operations in Base Ten: Rounding whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100, adding and subtracting fluently within 1000, and multiplying one-digit numbers by multiples of 10.
- Number and Operations - Fractions: Understanding unit fractions, representing fractions on a number line, explaining equivalence, and comparing fractions by reasoning about their size.
- Measurement and Data: Telling time to the nearest minute, measuring liquid volumes and masses, drawing scaled picture and bar graphs, and generating measurement data with rulers marked in halves and fourths of an inch.
- Geometry: Recognizing area as an attribute of plane figures, measuring area by counting unit squares, relating area to multiplication and addition, solving perimeter problems, and partitioning shapes into equal parts.
