About 4th Grade New Hampshire math
New Hampshire follows the NH Model Competencies for mathematics, organized around number sense, operations, fractions, measurement, data, and geometry. In 4th grade, students work on multiplicative comparison, place value through multi-digit whole numbers, fraction equivalence and addition, decimal notation, measurement conversion, angle measurement, and classifying two-dimensional figures. NH 4th Grade Math Topics
- Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Interpreting multiplication as a comparison, solving multiplicative comparison word problems, multistep whole-number word problems, factor pairs for numbers 1-100, and number and shape pattern rules.
- Number and Operations in Base Ten: Place value relationships in multi-digit whole numbers, reading and writing numbers in base-ten numerals and expanded form, rounding to any place, fluent addition and subtraction, multi-digit multiplication, and division with remainders.
- Number and Operations - Fractions: Equivalent fractions, comparing fractions with unlike numerators and denominators, fractions as sums of unit fractions, multiplying a fraction by a whole number, fractions with denominators 10 and 100, decimal notation, and comparing decimals to hundredths.
- Measurement and Data: Relative sizes of measurement units, solving word problems involving distance, time, volume, mass, and money, area and perimeter formulas for rectangles, and line plots with fractional measurements.
- Geometry: Angles as geometric shapes formed by two rays, measuring and sketching angles with a protractor, additive angle measure, drawing geometric figures including parallel and perpendicular lines, classifying two-dimensional figures, and identifying lines of symmetry.
