About 5th Grade Nebraska math
Nebraska follows the Nebraska College and Career Ready Standards, organized around number sense, operations, fractions, measurement, data, and geometry. In 5th grade, students work on place value with decimals, multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers, adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, fraction multiplication and division, volume, coordinate planes, and classifying two-dimensional figures. StudyPug provides video lessons and practice problems that cover every one of these strands, matched to what Nebraska classrooms teach.
- Strands covered: number and operations in base ten, fractions, operations and algebraic thinking, measurement and data, and geometry
- Video lessons that walk through each concept step by step
- Practice problems with immediate feedback for every topic

- Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Using parentheses, brackets, and braces in numerical expressions; writing and interpreting simple expressions; generating two numerical patterns and graphing ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.
- Number and Operations in Base Ten: Understanding place value relationships across digits; multiplying and dividing by powers of 10; reading, writing, and comparing decimals to thousandths; rounding decimals; fluently multiplying multi-digit whole numbers; dividing with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals to hundredths.
- Number and Operations - Fractions: Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators including mixed numbers; solving fraction word problems; interpreting fractions as division; multiplying fractions and whole numbers by fractions; interpreting multiplication as scaling; solving real-world fraction multiplication problems; dividing unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions.
- Measurement and Data: Converting units within a measurement system; making line plots with fractional measurements; understanding and measuring volume using unit cubes; relating volume to multiplication and addition to solve real-world problems.
- Geometry: Using perpendicular number lines to define a coordinate system; graphing and interpreting points in the first quadrant; understanding attributes of two-dimensional figure categories; classifying two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
