North Carolina 2nd Grade ELA — What Students Learn

In North Carolina, 2nd grade English Language Arts covers a wide range of foundational skills. Students develop phonics and word recognition, reading fluency, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and written expression. These skills are all part of the NC Standard Course of Study for Grade 2 English.

Reading Skills in 2nd Grade ELA

North Carolina 2nd graders work on reading both fiction and nonfiction texts.
