MD 4th Grade Science Curriculum
Give your child the support they need to keep up with Maryland's 4th grade science curriculum. Lessons and practice cover every strand, from life science to Earth and space.
About 4th Grade Maryland science
Maryland follows the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), adopted as the Maryland College Career Ready Standards for Science. In 4th grade, students explore life science through biomes, plant responses, and animal and human senses; physical science through states of matter, properties, forms of energy, light, and sound; and Earth science through Earth's structure, Earth's movement, and the solar system. StudyPug provides video lessons, practice problems, and step-by-step explanations aligned to each of these strands.
- Strands: life science (biomes, senses, plant responses), physical science (matter, energy, light, sound), Earth and space science (Earth's structure, solar system, conservation)
- Video lessons taught by certified teachers for every 4th grade science topic
- Practice problems and step-by-step explanations aligned to Maryland NGSS
- Parent assignments and smart recommendations to track and guide your child's progress

Maryland 4th Grade Science Topics
- Research Methods and Traditional Knowledge: students learn scientific inquiry, research skills, and how traditional knowledge contributes to scientific understanding.
- Human Senses, Animal Senses, and Plant Responses: covers how living things detect and respond to their environment, from human sensory systems to plant tropisms.
- Biomes and Interactions: explores major world biomes and the relationships between organisms and their environments, including food webs and ecosystem dynamics.
- States of Matter and Properties: examines solids, liquids, and gases along with the physical and chemical properties that distinguish materials.
- Forms of Energy, Light, and Sound: introduces kinetic and potential energy, how light travels and interacts with surfaces, and the behavior of sound waves.
- Earth's Structure and Earth's Movement: covers the layers of Earth, plate tectonics, and the forces that shape the land.
- Solar System: introduces the planets, moons, and other objects in our solar system and how Earth moves within it.
- Human Impact and Conservation: examines how human activity affects natural systems and what conservation practices can reduce that impact.
- Technology Process, Foundation Review, and Challenge Zone: builds engineering design thinking alongside review and enrichment content for every level of learner.
How StudyPug Helps Maryland 4th Grade Science Students
When a student gets stuck on a topic like states of matter or Earth's structure, StudyPug lets them jump straight to the lesson they need. Short video lessons explain each concept clearly, and practice problems with step-by-step explanations help students check their understanding right away. You can explore all the content available with grade 4 science help on StudyPug.
Parents can use the Parent Assignments feature to assign specific strands and track progress across biomes, energy, and the solar system. Smart Recommendations highlight where a student needs more practice, making study sessions focused and efficient. If your child is moving on, the md grade 5 science curriculum is ready when they are.
Aligned to Maryland 4th Grade Science Curriculum
StudyPug's 4th grade science content is organized to match the Maryland College Career Ready Standards for Science, which follow the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) framework. Every strand - from life science through physical science to Earth and space - maps to the same sequence Maryland schools use, so what your child studies on StudyPug reinforces exactly what they are learning in class.
