4th Grade Math Topics Covered
Kentucky 4th grade math covers a wide range of skills aligned to the Kentucky Academic Standards Math. StudyPug provides video lessons and practice problems for every one of the 28 topics in the 4th grade curriculum, from multiplication and division to fractions, decimals, and geometry.
Multiplication and Division
Students learn to interpret multiplication equations as comparisons and solve word problems using multiplicative reasoning. They practice multiplying up to four-digit numbers by a one-digit number, multiplying two two-digit numbers, and finding whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends.
Place Value and Number Sense
4th graders explore how digits in multi-digit whole numbers represent ten times the value of the digit to their right. They read, write, and round multi-digit whole numbers, and fluently add and subtract using the standard algorithm.
Fractions and Decimals
Students deepen their understanding of fractions by finding equivalent fractions, comparing fractions with different numerators and denominators, and adding fractions with the same denominator. They also multiply fractions by whole numbers, convert fractions with denominators of 10 or 100 to decimals, and compare decimals to the hundredths place.
Measurement and Data
4th grade covers measurement unit conversions, solving word problems involving time, distance, volume, mass, and money, and applying area and perimeter formulas. Students also create line plots to display fractional measurement data.
Geometry
Students draw and identify points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles. They classify two-dimensional figures by their properties, measure and sketch angles using a protractor, and recognize lines of symmetry.
- Recognize angles as geometric shapes formed by two rays sharing an endpoint
- Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor
- Draw perpendicular and parallel lines and classify figures accordingly
- Identify lines of symmetry in two-dimensional figures
