4th Grade Math Topics in Kansas
Kansas 4th grade math covers a wide range of skills that build the foundation for middle school math. Students work with multiplication and division, multi-digit whole numbers, fractions, decimals, measurement, and geometry — all aligned to Kansas Mathematics Standards.
Multiplication and Division
Students learn to interpret multiplication equations as comparisons and solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison. They also work through multistep word problems using all four operations. StudyPug has video lessons and practice for every one of these skills.
Place Value and Multi-Digit Numbers
4th graders in Kansas learn how digits shift in value across places, read and write large numbers in expanded form, round multi-digit whole numbers, and fluently add and subtract using the standard algorithm. They also multiply up to four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers and divide with remainders.
Fractions and Decimals
This grade introduces equivalent fractions, comparing fractions with unlike denominators, adding fractions as sums of unit fractions, multiplying fractions by whole numbers, and connecting fractions to decimal notation with denominators of 10 and 100.
Measurement and Data
Students solve word problems involving time, liquid volumes, masses, and money. They apply area and perimeter formulas for rectangles and create line plots using fractional measurements.
Geometry
4th grade geometry covers angles, how to measure them with a protractor, and how angle measures are additive. Students draw and classify points, lines, rays, and two-dimensional figures based on parallel lines, perpendicular lines, and angle types. They also identify lines of symmetry.
Preparing for the KAP Assessment
Kansas students in grade 4 are assessed through the Kansas Assessment Program (KAP). StudyPug's 4th grade math content aligns to Kansas Mathematics Standards, covering every topic students are expected to know — making it a practical tool for both daily homework and test preparation.
