Idaho 6th Grade ELA: What Students Learn

In 6th grade, Idaho students dive deeper into reading and writing skills that form the foundation of middle school English. Aligned to the Idaho Content Standards for ELA, the curriculum focuses on understanding complex texts, crafting well-organized arguments, and developing precise grammar and vocabulary skills.

Reading and Literary Analysis

6th graders in Idaho are expected to analyze both literary and informational texts. Students practice identifying main ideas, author's purpose, text structure, and how evidence supports claims. StudyPug's lessons break down these reading strategies into clear, manageable steps.

  • Reading comprehension strategies for fiction and nonfiction
  • Literary analysis: theme, character, plot, and point of view
  • Informational text analysis: summarizing and citing evidence
  • Vocabulary in context and word relationships

Writing and Grammar

Writing in 6th grade includes argumentative essays, informative writing, and narrative pieces. Students also build grammar skills covering parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, and usage. StudyPug's practice exercises give students immediate feedback so they can correct mistakes and improve.

  • Argumentative and opinion writing
  • Informative and explanatory writing
  • Narrative writing techniques
  • Grammar: clauses, phrases, punctuation, and mechanics

Preparing for the Idaho ISAT

Idaho 6th graders take the ISAT (Idaho Standards Achievement Tests), which includes an ELA component. StudyPug's lessons are aligned to the Idaho Content Standards tested on the ISAT, helping students build the skills they need to perform confidently on test day.
