6th Grade ELA in Iowa

Iowa 6th graders are expected to read complex literary and informational texts, write clearly across different purposes, and apply grammar and vocabulary skills in their work. These expectations are set by the Iowa Core Standards for English Language Arts, and students are assessed on these skills through the ISASP in Grade 6.

Reading and Writing Skills Covered

At the 6th grade level, Iowa students develop skills in analyzing fiction and nonfiction texts, identifying author's purpose, citing evidence, and understanding point of view.
