Hawaii 7th Grade Math Topics

  • Ratios and Proportional Relationships: Computing unit rates with ratios of fractions, recognizing and representing proportional relationships, and solving multistep ratio and percent problems.
  • The Number System: Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers, and solving real-world problems using all four operations with rational numbers.
  • Expressions and Equations: Applying properties of operations to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions; rewriting expressions to clarify relationships; solving multi-step problems with rational numbers in any form; and using variables to construct and solve simple equations and inequalities.
  • Geometry: Scale drawings, constructing geometric shapes with given conditions, describing cross-sections of three-dimensional figures, working with circle area and circumference, angle relationships, and solving problems involving area, volume, and surface area.
  • Statistics and Probability: Drawing inferences from random samples, comparing two data distributions, using measures of center and variability, understanding probability as a number between 0 and 1, approximating probability from data, developing probability models, and finding probabilities of compound events.
