Discover how to turn groups of objects into a written addition sentence, using numbers, the plus sign, and the equal sign up to 5.
What You'll Learn
Identify the two groups being joined together and count how many objects are in each one
Write each group's count as a number, placed in the correct order left to right
Place the plus sign between the two numbers to show the groups are being joined, as in \( 2 + 3 \)
Count all the objects together to find the total, and write it after the equal sign, as in \( 2 + 3 = 5 \)
Check that the total never goes above 5, since every part and the whole must stay within that limit
Compare a finished addition statement to the picture it came from to confirm every number matches
