Arkansas 3rd Grade ELA: What Students Learn

In 3rd grade, Arkansas students develop essential English skills that form the foundation for future learning. Guided by the Arkansas English Language Arts Standards, students work on reading comprehension, phonics, spelling, grammar, and structured writing. StudyPug provides lessons and practice exercises for every one of these skills.

Reading and Comprehension Skills

Arkansas 3rd graders practice understanding stories, identifying main ideas, and explaining how characters respond to events. They also read informational texts and learn to ask and answer questions about what they read. StudyPug breaks these skills into focused lessons with worked examples so students can practice at their own pace.

Writing and Grammar Practice

3rd grade writing in Arkansas includes opinion pieces, informative paragraphs, and narrative writing. Students also study grammar topics like noun and verb agreement, punctuation, and sentence structure. StudyPug offers guided practice for each of these skills aligned to Arkansas standards.

Vocabulary and Word Study

  • Context clues to determine word meaning
  • Prefixes, suffixes, and root words
  • Distinguishing literal and non-literal language
  • Academic vocabulary used in reading and writing

Preparing for ACT Aspire
