Meet the Community Helpers Who Take Care of You!

You will learn about community helpers and the important jobs they do to take care of people in your community every day.

What Are Community Helpers?

Community helpers are people who do special jobs to help you and everyone around you. They work every day to keep you safe, healthy, and happy. You can find community helpers in your Community Places like schools, hospitals, and fire stations.

Every community helper has a different job. Each job is important. Together, they help your whole community!

Community Helpers and Their Jobs

Helpers Who Keep You Safe

A firefighter puts out fires and rescues people. Firefighters drive big fire trucks and use long hoses to spray water on fires. They wear heavy suits and helmets to stay safe.

A police officer patrols your neighbourhood to keep everyone safe. Police officers wear a blue uniform and a shiny badge so you can recognise them. You can call 9-1-1 in an emergency to reach police, fire, or ambulance services.

A crossing guard helps you cross the street safely near your school. They hold a stop sign and wear a bright vest so drivers can see them.

A paramedic drives an ambulance and helps people who are hurt in an emergency. Paramedics give urgent medical care before people reach a hospital.

Helpers Who Help You Learn and Find Things

A teacher helps you learn letters, numbers, and new things at school every day. Teachers are found in schools across every community.

A librarian helps you find and borrow books at the library. Librarians also read stories aloud to children at storytime programs.
