About 6th Grade Washington math

Washington follows the Washington State K-12 Learning Standards for mathematics. In 6th grade, students work across five major strands: ratios and proportional relationships, the number system (including fractions, decimals, and negative numbers), expressions and equations, geometry (area, surface area, and volume), and statistics and probability. StudyPug provides step-by-step video lessons and practice problems matched to every one of these strands.

  • Strands: ratios and rates, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics
  • Video lessons for every 6th grade Washington math topic
  • Practice problems with instant feedback and step-by-step solutions

WA 6th Grade Math Topics

  • Ratios and Proportional Relationships: Understand ratios and unit rates, and use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world problems.
  • The Number System: Divide fractions by fractions, fluently work with multi-digit numbers and decimals, find greatest common factors and least common multiples, and extend understanding to negative numbers and the coordinate plane.
  • Expressions and Equations: Write and evaluate numerical expressions with exponents, use variables, apply properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions, and solve equations and inequalities of the form x + p = q and px = q.
  • Geometry: Find the area of triangles and polygons, calculate volume of rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths, draw polygons in the coordinate plane, and use nets to find surface area.
  • Statistics and Probability: Recognize statistical questions, describe data distributions by center and spread, and display data in dot plots, histograms, and box plots.

How StudyPug Helps WA 6th Grade Math Students

When a student hits a wall on ratio reasoning or gets confused by negative number coordinates, StudyPug lets them go back to the exact lesson they need and work through it at their own pace. Each topic comes with a 6th grade math quiz so students can check their understanding right away and see worked solutions for any question they miss.

Parents can track progress across all five strands and spot gaps before they become problems on the SBAC. Students who want to build on earlier skills can also revisit 5th grade math standards Washington state content whenever they need a refresher.

Aligned to WA 6th Grade Math Curriculum

Every lesson and practice problem on StudyPug for 6th grade math is built to match the Washington State K-12 Learning Standards. The strands covered - ratios, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics - mirror exactly what Washington classrooms teach, so students are always practicing what their teacher assigned and preparing for the SBAC at the same time.
