4th Grade Math Topics Covered
StudyPug covers all 28 topics in the Tennessee 4th grade math curriculum. From interpreting multiplication equations as comparisons to recognizing lines of symmetry in two-dimensional figures, every standard is broken down into clear, step-by-step video lessons followed by practice problems.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Tennessee 4th graders strengthen their understanding of multiplication and division by solving word problems involving multiplicative comparison. Students also work with multistep word problems, find factor pairs for whole numbers up to 100, and generate number and shape patterns that follow given rules. These skills build the algebraic thinking needed for middle school math.
Number and Operations in Base Ten
Place value is a cornerstone of 4th grade math. Students learn that a digit in one place represents ten times the value of the same digit one place to its right. They read and write multi-digit whole numbers in base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form, then use place value understanding to round to any place. Fluent addition and subtraction of multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm is also covered, along with multiplication of up to four-digit numbers by a one-digit number and two-digit by two-digit multiplication.
Fractions and Decimals
Fractions are a major focus in 4th grade. Students explain why fractions are equivalent, compare fractions with different numerators and denominators, and understand fractions greater than 1 as sums of unit fractions. They also extend their understanding to multiply a fraction by a whole number. Decimals are introduced through fractions with denominators of 10 and 100, and students compare decimals to the hundredths place.
Measurement and Data
4th graders work with measurement conversions within a single system of units and solve word problems involving distance, time, liquid volume, mass, and money. They apply area and perimeter formulas for rectangles and create line plots to display measurement data sets in fractions of a unit.
Geometry
Students explore angles as geometric shapes formed when two rays share an endpoint, measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor, and sketch angles of specified measures. They recognize that angle measure is additive and draw points, lines, line segments, rays, and various types of angles. Two-dimensional figures are classified by the presence of parallel or perpendicular lines and angles of specified sizes. Students also identify lines of symmetry.
Aligned to Tennessee Mathematics Standards
All StudyPug content for 4th grade math is aligned to Tennessee Mathematics Standards. Tennessee students in 4th grade are assessed through TNReady, and StudyPug covers every topic on that assessment. Whether your child needs homework help tonight or wants to get ahead before the TNReady test, StudyPug has the right lesson ready to go.
