South Carolina 3rd Grade Math Topics
- Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Interpreting products and quotients of whole numbers, solving multiplication and division word problems within 100, applying properties of operations, identifying arithmetic patterns, and solving two-step word problems using all four operations.
- Number and Operations in Base Ten: Using place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100, adding and subtracting fluently within 1000, and multiplying one-digit numbers by multiples of 10.
- Number and Operations - Fractions: Understanding fractions as quantities formed by equal parts of a whole, representing fractions on a number line, explaining equivalence, and comparing fractions by reasoning about their size.
- Measurement and Data: Telling and writing time to the nearest minute, measuring liquid volumes and masses, drawing scaled picture graphs and bar graphs, generating measurement data using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch, and understanding area as an attribute of plane figures measured by counting unit squares.
- Geometry: Recognizing shared attributes of shapes in different categories, understanding area in relation to multiplication and addition, solving perimeter problems for polygons, and partitioning shapes into equal parts expressed as unit fractions.
