8th Grade ELA in Rhode Island

Rhode Island 8th graders are expected to read complex literary and informational texts, write clear arguments, and demonstrate strong grammar skills. StudyPug breaks every one of these skills into focused lessons with guided practice so students can build confidence step by step.

Reading and Literary Analysis

8th grade readers analyze how authors develop theme, character, and point of view across literary texts. Students also compare how different authors approach similar topics in informational writing. StudyPug's lessons walk through these skills with worked examples drawn from real text types.

Writing Skills for 8th Grade

Grade 8 writing focuses on argument essays, informational writing, and narrative composition. Students learn to cite evidence, organize ideas, and develop a clear voice. Practice exercises on StudyPug give students the repetition they need to improve their writing before assignments are due.

Grammar and Vocabulary

8th grade English also reinforces grammar conventions including punctuation, sentence structure, and word choice. Building a strong vocabulary helps students both in reading comprehension and in their own writing. StudyPug covers these foundational skills alongside the bigger reading and writing units.

Preparing for RICAS ELA

Rhode Island students in Grade 8 take the RICAS assessment, which tests reading comprehension and writing skills. StudyPug's aligned lessons and practice problems help students review every tested skill so they can walk into the exam feeling prepared.
