Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size

4.G.A.3

Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts

Pennsylvania 4th Grade Math Topics

Pennsylvania 4th graders cover a wide range of math skills that form the foundation for middle school math. StudyPug breaks every topic down into clear, short video lessons so students can learn at their own pace and get help with homework anytime.

Multiplication and Division

Students learn to interpret multiplication as a comparison, solve word problems with multiplicative reasoning, and fluently multiply numbers up to four digits by a one-digit number and two two-digit numbers. Division covers four-digit dividends with one-digit divisors, including remainders.

Place Value and Number Sense

4th graders explore how digits in a multi-digit number represent ten times the value of the digit to their right. They read, write, and compare large numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form, and round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.

Fractions and Decimals

Students build fraction understanding by finding equivalent fractions, comparing fractions with different numerators and denominators, adding fractions as sums of unit fractions, and multiplying fractions by whole numbers. They also connect fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 to decimal notation and compare decimals to the hundredths place.

Measurement and Data

4th grade measurement covers unit conversions within a system, solving word problems involving time, distance, volume, mass, and money, applying area and perimeter formulas for rectangles, and creating line plots with fractional measurements.

Geometry

Students learn to identify and draw points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles. They measure and sketch angles using a protractor, understand angle measure as additive, classify 2D figures by parallel and perpendicular lines and angle types, and identify lines of symmetry.
