About 2nd Grade Oregon math
Oregon follows the Oregon Standards for Mathematics, organized around number sense, operations, measurement, data, and geometry. In 2nd grade, students build fluency with addition and subtraction within 100 and 1000, develop understanding of place value with three-digit numbers, measure lengths using appropriate tools, work with time and money, analyze data with graphs, and explore shapes and equal shares. Oregon 2nd Grade Math Topics
- Number operations: Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems, and fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.
- Place value: Understand three-digit numbers as hundreds, tens, and ones; read, write, and compare numbers to 1000; count and skip-count within 1000.
- Addition and subtraction within 1000: Add and subtract using place value strategies, properties of operations, and concrete models; mentally add or subtract 10 or 100 from any number.
- Odd and even numbers and arrays: Determine whether a group of objects has an odd or even number of members and use addition to find totals in rectangular arrays.
- Measurement and data: Measure lengths with appropriate tools, estimate lengths in inches, feet, centimeters, and meters, compare lengths, and represent data in picture graphs and bar graphs.
- Time and money: Tell and write time to the nearest five minutes; solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.
- Geometry and equal shares: Recognize and draw shapes with specified attributes; partition rectangles and circles into two, three, or four equal shares.
