NJ 8th Grade Math Curriculum
Give your child the support they need to keep up with New Jersey's 8th grade math curriculum. Video lessons and practice problems cover every strand, from linear equations to geometry transformations.
About 8th Grade New Jersey math
New Jersey follows the NJ Student Learning Standards for Mathematics, organized into strands covering the number system, expressions and equations, functions, geometry, and statistics and probability. In 8th grade, students work with irrational numbers, integer exponents, scientific notation, linear equations and systems, functions, geometric transformations, the Pythagorean Theorem, volume formulas, and bivariate data analysis. StudyPug provides video lessons and practice problems aligned to every one of these strands.
- Strands: The Number System, Expressions and Equations, Functions, Geometry, Statistics and Probability
- Video lessons for every 8th grade math topic
- Practice problems with step-by-step solutions
- Aligned to NJ Student Learning Standards for Mathematics
Curriculum topics by strand
Lessons and practice for every strand of the NJ Student Learning Standards for 8th Grade Mathematics.
NJ 8th Grade Math Topics
- The Number System: Rational and irrational numbers, decimal expansions, and rational approximations of irrational numbers on the number line.
- Expressions and Equations: Integer exponent properties, square and cube roots, scientific notation, proportional relationships, slope, linear equations in one variable, and systems of simultaneous linear equations.
- Functions: Defining and comparing functions, interpreting linear functions of the form y = mx + b, modeling linear relationships, and analyzing graphs qualitatively.
- Geometry: Rotations, reflections, translations, dilations, congruence and similarity, angle relationships with parallel lines and transversals, and the Pythagorean Theorem in two and three dimensions, including distance in the coordinate plane, plus volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres.
- Statistics and Probability: Scatter plots, patterns of association, linear models for bivariate data, and two-way tables for bivariate categorical data.
How StudyPug Helps NJ 8th Grade Math Students
When a student gets stuck on a concept like slope or the Pythagorean Theorem, StudyPug lets them go back to the exact lesson they need without waiting for the next class. Short video lessons walk through each step, and 8th grade math quiz problems let students check their understanding right away.
Students can also use 8th grade math notes alongside their school lessons to review key ideas and worked examples at their own pace, building confidence before tests and assignments.
Aligned to NJ 8th Grade Math Curriculum
Every StudyPug lesson for 8th grade math is mapped to the NJ Student Learning Standards for Mathematics, so the topics your child sees on StudyPug match exactly what their New Jersey teacher is covering in class. If your child is building toward 8th grade from the previous year, the NJ grade 7 math curriculum is also available to fill any gaps.
