New Hampshire 2nd Grade Math Topics

New Hampshire 2nd grade math covers a wide range of foundational skills aligned to the NH Mathematics Model Competencies. StudyPug provides video lessons and practice problems for every topic your child will encounter this year.

Addition and Subtraction

2nd graders in New Hampshire work on adding and subtracting within 100 and 1000. They solve one- and two-step word problems, fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies, and learn to add up to four two-digit numbers. StudyPug breaks each strategy into clear, step-by-step video lessons.

Place Value and Number Sense

Students learn that three-digit numbers represent hundreds, tens, and ones. They count within 1000, skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s, and compare three-digit numbers. They also practice reading and writing numbers to 1000 in expanded form and word form.

Measurement and Data

2nd grade measurement topics include selecting the right tools, estimating lengths in inches, feet, centimeters, and meters, and comparing lengths. Students also tell time to the nearest five minutes and solve word problems involving coins and dollar bills. They generate and display data using picture graphs and bar graphs.

Geometry

Students recognize and draw shapes with specific attributes, partition rectangles into equal squares, and divide circles and rectangles into halves, thirds, and fourths. These geometry skills lay the groundwork for fractions in later grades.
