About 8th Grade Mississippi math
Mississippi follows the MS College Career Ready Standards, organizing 8th grade math around five core areas: the number system, expressions and equations, functions, geometry, and statistics and probability. Students work through irrational numbers, integer exponents, scientific notation, linear equations and systems, functions and slope, geometric transformations and the Pythagorean Theorem, and data analysis with scatter plots and two-way tables. StudyPug provides video lessons and practice problems aligned to every one of these strands.
- Strands: The Number System, Expressions and Equations, Functions, Geometry, Statistics and Probability
- Video lessons for every 8th grade math topic, taught step by step

MS 8th Grade Math Topics
- The Number System: Rational and irrational numbers, decimal expansions, and using rational approximations to place irrational numbers on a number line.
- Expressions and Equations: Integer exponent properties, square and cube roots, scientific notation, slope and linear equations, and systems of simultaneous linear equations.
- Functions: Defining and comparing functions, interpreting linear functions of the form y = mx + b, modeling linear relationships, and analyzing graphs qualitatively.
- Geometry: Transformations including rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations; congruence and similarity; angle relationships; the Pythagorean Theorem and its applications; and volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres.
- Statistics and Probability: Scatter plots, lines of best fit, interpreting slope and intercept in data contexts, and two-way tables for bivariate categorical data.
How StudyPug Helps MS 8th Grade Math Students
When your child gets stuck on a concept like solving systems of linear equations or applying the Pythagorean Theorem, they can pull up a focused video lesson and work through practice problems at their own pace. You can also browse 8th grade math notes to review key ideas before a test or quiz.
If you want to check how your child is doing across all the strands before a big assessment, the 8th grade math quiz lets them test themselves on realistic problems and spot any gaps right away.
