Michigan Kindergarten Math Topics
- Counting and Cardinality: Count to 100 by ones and tens, count forward from a given number, write numerals 0-20, understand the relationship between numbers and quantities, and answer 'how many?' questions about up to 20 objects.
- Number Comparison: Identify whether one group has more, fewer, or equal objects compared to another, and compare two written numerals between 1 and 10.
- Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Represent addition and subtraction using objects, fingers, drawings, and equations; solve word problems within 10; decompose numbers up to 10 in more than one way; find the number that makes 10; and fluently add and subtract within 5.
- Number and Operations in Base Ten: Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones to build early place value understanding.
- Measurement and Data: Describe measurable attributes such as length and weight, directly compare two objects using a shared attribute, and classify and sort objects into categories by count.
- Geometry: Name and describe shapes in the environment, identify two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, analyze and compare shapes of different sizes and orientations, and compose simple shapes to form larger ones.
