3rd Grade Math in Georgia: What Students Learn

Georgia 3rd graders follow the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for math. This year introduces big ideas like multiplication, division, and fractions for the first time. Students also explore measurement, area, perimeter, and data. These skills build the foundation students need for 4th grade and beyond.

Multiplication and Division

A large part of 3rd grade math focuses on understanding and memorizing multiplication and division facts within 100. Students learn to interpret products, use properties of operations, and solve word problems using all four operations. StudyPug has video lessons for every one of these standards so students can practice until the facts stick.

Fractions

Fractions are introduced in 3rd grade. Students learn what a fraction means, how to place fractions on a number line, and how to compare fractions. These concepts are new and can be confusing — StudyPug breaks them down step by step.

Measurement, Data, and Geometry

3rd graders also measure time, liquid volume, and mass. They read picture graphs and bar graphs, measure lengths to the nearest quarter inch, and explore area and perimeter of shapes. StudyPug covers all of these topics with clear video lessons and practice problems.

Georgia Milestones and 3rd Grade Math

Georgia tests 3rd grade math through the Georgia Milestones assessment. StudyPug's content is aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence, so every topic students practice on StudyPug is a topic that may appear on the Milestones test.

  • Multiplication and division fluency within 100
  • Fraction concepts and number line representation
  • Area, perimeter, and geometry
  • Measurement and data interpretation
  • Two-step word problems using all four operations
