4th Grade Math Topics in Colorado

Colorado 4th graders cover a wide range of math concepts under the Colorado Academic Standards Math. StudyPug organizes every topic into clear lessons so students can find exactly what they need — whether it's homework help tonight or getting ahead for the CMAS assessment.

Multiplication and Division

Students learn to interpret multiplication equations as comparisons, solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, and work with multi-digit multiplication — including multiplying up to four digits by a one-digit number and two two-digit numbers together. Division extends to four-digit dividends with one-digit divisors, including remainders.

Fractions and Decimals

4th grade introduces equivalent fractions, comparing fractions with different numerators and denominators, adding fractions as sums of unit fractions, and multiplying a fraction by a whole number. Students also connect fractions to decimals, expressing fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 in decimal notation and comparing decimals to the hundredths place.

Place Value and Number Sense

Students recognize that each digit in a multi-digit number represents ten times the value of the digit to its right. They read, write, and compare multi-digit numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded form, and round multi-digit whole numbers to any place using place value understanding.

Measurement and Data

4th graders solve word problems involving distance, time, liquid volume, mass, and money using all four operations. They apply area and perimeter formulas for rectangles and create line plots to display measurement data in fractions of a unit.

Geometry

Students draw and identify points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles — including right, acute, and obtuse angles. They classify two-dimensional shapes by their properties, such as parallel or perpendicular sides, and identify lines of symmetry. Angle measurement with a protractor is introduced, and students learn that angle measure is additive.
