AZ 8th Grade Math Curriculum
Give your 8th grader the support they need to keep up with Arizona's math curriculum. Our lessons and practice problems cover every strand taught in Arizona classrooms this year.
About 8th Grade Arizona math
Arizona 8th grade math follows the Arizona Mathematics Standards, covering the Number System, Expressions and Equations, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Students work with rational and irrational numbers, integer exponents, scientific notation, linear equations, systems of equations, functions, transformations, the Pythagorean Theorem, volume formulas, and data analysis with scatter plots and two-way tables. StudyPug provides video lessons and practice problems aligned to every one of these strands.
- Strands: Number System, Expressions and Equations, Functions, Geometry, Statistics and Probability
- Video lessons with step-by-step explanations for every 8th grade Arizona math topic
- Practice problems and worked examples aligned to the Arizona Mathematics Standards
- Accessible on any device, any time - so learning fits your family's schedule
Curriculum topics by strand
Lessons and practice for every topic, aligned to the Arizona Mathematics Standards for 8th grade.
Arizona 8th Grade Math Topics
- The Number System: Rational and irrational numbers, decimal expansions, rational approximations, and locating irrational numbers on a number line.
- Expressions and Equations: Integer exponent properties, square roots and cube roots, scientific notation, operations with scientific notation, linear equations in one variable, and systems of simultaneous linear equations.
- Functions: Definition of a function, comparing functions represented in different ways, linear functions and the equation y = mx + b, modeling linear relationships, and analyzing graphs qualitatively.
- Geometry: Rotations, reflections, and translations; congruence and similarity of two-dimensional figures; dilations and coordinates; angle relationships with parallel lines and transversals; the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse; distance in a coordinate system; and volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres.
- Statistics and Probability: Scatter plots for bivariate data, patterns of association, fitting a linear model, interpreting slope and intercept, and two-way tables for categorical data.
How StudyPug Helps Arizona 8th Grade Math Students
When your child gets stuck on a concept like systems of equations or the Pythagorean Theorem, they can pull up a focused video lesson, follow the step-by-step explanation, and then work through practice problems to make sure it sticks. Our 8th grade math notes and lessons are organized by strand, so finding the right topic takes seconds rather than a frustrating search through a textbook.
For students who want to check their understanding, an 8th grade math quiz is available to identify gaps before a test. If your child is also reviewing what was taught last year, our AZ grade 7 math curriculum page shows exactly what Arizona 7th grade covers.
Aligned to Arizona 8th Grade Math Curriculum
Every lesson and practice problem on StudyPug is built around the Arizona Mathematics Standards for 8th grade, the same standards that guide what is taught in Arizona classrooms and assessed on the AzM2. That means the content your child works through on StudyPug directly reflects what their teacher expects them to know.
