Arkansas 7th Grade ELA — What Students Learn

In 7th grade English, Arkansas students develop skills across reading, writing, speaking, and language. They analyze both literary and informational texts, identify author's purpose and point of view, and support claims with evidence. These skills build directly on what students learned in 6th grade and prepare them for more advanced work in 8th grade and beyond.

Reading and Literary Analysis

7th grade readers in Arkansas dig into fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction. Students practice identifying themes, comparing texts, and evaluating how an author uses structure and word choice to develop meaning. StudyPug's lessons walk through these skills with worked examples and guided practice so students know exactly what to look for when they read.

Writing in 7th Grade ELA

Arkansas 7th graders write across three main modes:

  • Argumentative writing — making a claim and supporting it with evidence from texts
  • Informative writing — explaining a topic clearly and accurately
  • Narrative writing — crafting stories with developed characters and plot

StudyPug breaks each writing type into manageable steps so students can practice planning, drafting, and revising with confidence.

Grammar, Vocabulary, and Language Skills

Strong grammar and vocabulary are essential in 7th grade. Students learn to use varied sentence structures, correct punctuation, and precise word choice. Vocabulary instruction focuses on context clues, Greek and Latin roots, and academic language. StudyPug's practice exercises reinforce these skills so students can apply them in their own writing.

Preparing for the ACT Aspire

Arkansas uses the ACT Aspire to assess ELA in grades 3–8. The 7th grade assessment tests reading comprehension and written expression. StudyPug lessons are aligned to Arkansas ELA standards, giving students the practice they need to feel prepared on test day.
