Grade 9 English in Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan Grade 9 English develops students' abilities across six language arts strands: viewing, listening, reading, representing, speaking, and writing. Students engage with a wide range of texts — from traditional First Nations and Métis stories to contemporary fiction, poetry, and informational writing — to build critical thinking, communication, and literacy skills.
Reading and Viewing in Grade 9 English
Grade 9 students apply before-, during-, and after-reading strategies to understand and analyze texts. They use pragmatic, textual, syntactic, semantic, and graphophonic cues to construct meaning. Visual and multimedia literacy is also a key focus, with students interpreting illustrations, charts, photography, video clips, and other media.
