Grade 3 English in Ontario

Ontario Grade 3 English covers a wide range of literacy skills. Students develop their ability to read with understanding, write clearly, communicate ideas out loud, and apply grammar and spelling rules. These skills build on what students learned in Grade 2 and set the foundation for Grade 4 and beyond.

Reading and Comprehension

In Grade 3, students read a variety of texts including stories, poems, and informational articles. They learn to identify the main idea, make inferences, and connect what they read to their own experiences. StudyPug's guided lessons walk through comprehension strategies step by step so students can practise and improve.

Writing Skills

Grade 3 writing focuses on organizing ideas, using descriptive language, and writing in different forms such as narratives, reports, and letters. Students also learn to revise and edit their own work. StudyPug provides worked examples and practice exercises to help students develop strong writing habits.

Grammar and Spelling

Ontario Grade 3 students are expected to apply grammar rules correctly in their writing. This includes understanding nouns, verbs, adjectives, punctuation, and sentence structure. Spelling patterns and word families are also key parts of the Grade 3 English program. StudyPug breaks each grammar and spelling concept into clear, manageable lessons.

Oral Communication

Speaking and listening are important parts of the Ontario Grade 3 English curriculum. Students practise sharing ideas, asking questions, and listening actively. StudyPug supports this by helping students understand the language concepts that underpin effective communication.

Preparing for EQAO

Ontario Grade 3 students write the EQAO Primary Division Assessment, which tests reading and writing skills. StudyPug's lessons and practice problems align to the Ontario curriculum and help students feel prepared and confident before assessment day.
