Grade 7 Science in Alberta
Alberta Grade 7 science introduces students to four major areas of study: interactions within ecosystems, the particle theory of matter, heat and temperature, and structural forces. Each unit builds scientific thinking skills that students will carry into Grade 8 and beyond.
Ecosystems and Living Systems
Students explore how living things interact with each other and their environment. Topics include food webs, biodiversity, and the impact of human activity on ecosystems. Understanding these relationships helps students connect science to the world around them.
Particle Theory of Matter
Grade 7 students learn that all matter is made of tiny particles and use this model to explain properties of solids, liquids, and gases. This unit lays the groundwork for chemistry concepts in later grades.
Heat and Temperature
This unit covers how heat is produced, transferred, and measured. Students learn the difference between heat and temperature and explore how thermal energy affects everyday materials and systems.
Structural Forces
Students examine how forces act on structures and how engineers design objects to withstand loads. This unit connects science to real-world applications in construction and design.
