  • Addition and subtraction: standard algorithms for whole and decimal numbers, estimation strategies, and solving problems involving money.
  • Divisibility, multiplication, and division: divisibility tests for 2, 3, and 5; multiplying up to 3-digit by 2-digit numbers; dividing 3-digit by 1-digit numbers; interpreting remainders and estimating products and quotients.
  • Fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers: relating fractions to the number line, modeling with quantities and areas, comparing to benchmarks, and adding or subtracting fractions with common denominators.
  • Ratios and proportional relationships: part-part and part-whole ratios, and expressing the same relationship as a ratio, fraction, decimal, and percentage.
  • Algebraic expressions and order of operations: evaluating expressions with parentheses, writing expressions with one or two terms, and substituting values for variables.
  • Geometry and symmetry: reflection and rotation symmetry in 2-D shapes, lines of symmetry, order of rotation, and connections to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit designs.
  • Coordinate grids: locating and describing points using coordinates, and modeling polygons on a grid.
  • Measurement - perimeter and area: area of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and composite shapes; relationships between perimeter and area; square centimetres, square metres, and square kilometres.
  • Volume: modeling and calculating volume of right rectangular prisms using cubic centimetres and multiplication.
  • Patterns and functions: arithmetic sequences, tables of values, coordinate graphs, algebraic expressions for rules, and dependent and independent variables.
  • Data and statistics: frequency tables, mode, closed-list questions, and creating graphs to interpret categorized data.
