About the CAEC Writing test
The CAEC Writing test is one of five subjects on the Canadian Adult Education Credential — the high-school-equivalency credential that replaced the GED in Canada in 2024. Unlike the other subjects, it asks you to produce one extended written response rather than answer selected-response questions.
What skills does CAEC Writing assess?
One extended written response judged on four things: essay structure and organization, argumentative writing, use of evidence and support, and grammar and mechanics. StudyPug covers all of them with focused lessons and practice.
Is CAEC Writing hard, and where do learners struggle most?
Most adult learners lose marks in a few specific places — planning an essay under time pressure, backing a claim with evidence instead of opinion, and sentence-level grammar in longer writing. Targeted practice on those three fixes most of the gap.
How is CAEC Writing scored?
Your response is scored against a rubric rather than machine-marked, and you need 55% to pass. Each subject is scored independently — so you only retake the subjects you don't pass.
